Notes from the team

This is where we write down what changed. There’s no Twitter account and there isn’t going to be one, so if something’s different, it’ll be here.

Gridiron Battles is free, and it stays free. No signup, no account, no app.

It’s better with someone else. Send a friend today’s match and see who gets further on the same one.

If you already play Cine2Nerdle or 20-0, this is that kind of thing. One match a day, everybody gets the same match, come back tomorrow for a new one. Those are other people’s games and nothing to do with us.

There is a token called GRIDIRON. You never need it to play and the game does not change because of it. Whatever it pays us goes back into running this. What it is and how it works is on the token page.

What changed

v0.8

Sep 20, 2026Latest
  • There's a token now, called GRIDIRON. The game is free and it stays free — no signup, no wallet, no prizes, no advantage. If you never touch the token you lose nothing, and the daily works exactly like it did yesterday.
  • The one real contract address is on the token page. Anyone can name a token "Gridiron Battles", so if you find one that doesn't match what's published there, it isn't ours.
  • How it works: every transfer pays 3% to the people holding, automatically, with nothing to claim. There is no creator fee — this mode doesn't have one. We earn from the same 3% as everyone else, on what we hold.
  • What we hold is 17,966,755 GRIDIRON — about 1.8% of the supply — bought at launch on the same curve, at the same price anyone else would have paid. No allocation, no free tokens. The wallet is published on the token page and it doesn't move.
  • Whatever it pays us goes back into running this.
  • We will never DM you. Not about the token, not about anything. Anyone who messages you claiming to be us is not us.
  • It might be worth nothing. Most of these are. Don't buy it expecting otherwise.

v0.7

Sep 9, 2026
  • Daily results no longer spoil the daily. Sharing your result posts coloured squares instead of the players you named, so a friend can still attempt the same match cold.
  • Sharing a daily now makes a link to that result, with its own preview card.
  • Every daily result is now checked against the game's own rules on the server before it counts. A result that could not have happened does not make the leaderboard.
  • The player you have to link to is named on every turn, and its card stands out from the ones above it.
  • On phones, the header and stats step aside while the keyboard is up, so you can see the chain you're building.
  • A search that fails now says so, instead of looking like the player doesn't exist.
  • If today's daily can't load, it says so, and your one attempt isn't used up.
  • Practice starts a match straight away instead of asking you to pick settings first.
  • The homepage is down to two things: today's challenge, and a warm-up.
  • Quiet days show the longest chain instead of a small player count.
  • Data credit to nflverse, on the footer, where it should have been.

v0.6

Sep 6, 2026
  • Daily Challenge: one match a day, same starting player and same rules for everyone. One attempt — but a reload never loses your progress.
  • Daily leaderboard with your rank, an optional display name, and a share card that leads with where you placed.
  • The homepage now shows today's challenge and how many people have played today.
  • Player photos replaced with team-colour tiles.

v0.5

Aug 27, 2026
  • Visual overhaul: new lobby home screen, scoreboard-style typography, and a gridiron backdrop.
  • Player headshots in search results and the chain.

v0.4

Aug 27, 2026
  • Fair opening move: the first pick of a match must be a well-known player, so the chain never opens on a name nobody can build on.
  • Renamed the lifelines: Hint is now "Coach’s Call", Skip is now "Punt".
  • Practice Mode: no clock, no hidden objective — explore links against the bot at your own pace.
  • End screen now shows a "Links used" recap alongside the full chain.
  • This page.

v0.3

Aug 26, 2026
  • Fixed team-code mismatches (old PFR codes vs. current league codes) that were silently breaking coach links and Super Bowl credit for five teams from 2002–2015.

v0.2

Aug 26, 2026
  • Rebuilt the match screen layout.
  • Your hidden objective and its progress are now visible while you play, not just at the end.

v0.1

Aug 26, 2026
  • Fixed the iOS keyboard covering the top search result.

v0.0

Aug 25, 2026
  • Initial build: playable match vs. a bot, Supabase backend, mobile pass.
